Unplug your ears

Unplug your ears

Wisdom shouts in the streets. She cries out in the public square.
Proverbs 1:20, NLT

Proverbs is called the Book of Wisdom for a reason for it is filled with the Wisdom of God to help guide you in life. When I was a young man, I thought wisdom was for smart or intelligent people. As I grew older, I realized many smart and intelligent people lacked wisdom and it showed by doing some really stupid things. Yet the Word says “Wisdom shouts in the streets. She cries out in the public square.” That means Wisdom is shouting out everywhere to everyone who will hear. That brings me to another scripture:

He that hath ears to hear, let him hear.
Matthew 11:15, KJV

This saying is mentioned seven times in the Bible. More importantly, it is mentioned in the letters to the seven churches in Asia, in the book of Revelation – and bear in mind that the church is not the building, we are the church, and we are the Body of Christ. But why are we not hearing this Wisdom that is being shouted out to us? God is always speaking but we are not always hearing. We need to unplug our ears so we can hear what the Spirit is saying to every one of us. It is a matter of life and death sometimes. I am talking about your life, your destiny.

How can you hear the voice of the Lord? One thing you can do is repent for not taking the time to listen out for God’s voice. To repent means to ‘think differently’, so what I’m saying here is that we should rethink how we are doing life. Are you taking proper time to spend with God, and with His Word? Are you entering your prayer closet and shutting the door to the distracting noise of the world? Are you attending a Bible-believing church, and do you have leaders who can help guide you? Do you have a mature older man or woman who can mentor you and keep you accountable? If not then rethink how you are doing in life. Listen to me: Wisdom is crying out, so unplug your ears with a Holy Ghost Q-tip and position yourself to hear what the Spirit is saying to you.

Let us touch on the second part of our lead scripture, which says: “She cries out in the public square.” Why did the Lord use a feminine pronoun? I am sure you are aware of the philosophy of today’s culture concerning pronouns, but God isn’t messing around with that stuff. Hear me out for a moment, especially you men. Most men will relate to what I have to say here. As a man, I have made many bad decisions throughout my life. I lacked a father’s guidance but I did have a loving mom. While my dad was making bad decisions that affected us, my mother’s voice was the one I leaned into. My other hero is my wife whom I affectionately call Jean Marie. In my stubbornness I would sometimes reject what my mom or wife said to me, but after I pondered about it I found that they were usually right concerning me and my emotions or how I mishandled something or someone.

Here is something you may not know about me. I had an older sister whom I had never met. Her name was Katherine and she passed away as an infant of 6 months. I sometimes wonder what my life would have been like if I had that older sister to speak words of clarity to me. This is where I feel the pronoun ‘she’ comes in. The godly woman in the Bible exhibited great wisdom and great timing. God wants you to have access to this wisdom and to help guide you in life. If you struggle with what I am saying then maybe this scripture will clear it up for you.

Say unto wisdom, Thou art my sister; And call understanding thy kinswoman.
Proverbs 7:4, KJV

CONFESSION

Lord, help me repent and unplug my ears.

PRAYER

Father, I love you and I so desire to be guided by your words of wisdom. I ask you today for your Holy Spirit to help position me so I can hear the word of Wisdom you have for me regarding my life. Jesus, you said, “Man cannot live by bread alone but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.” That is what I want to hear, your words to live by. In Jesus’ name,
AMEN
