“Remember, the fire must be kept burning on the altar at all times. It must never go out.”
Leviticus 6:13, NLT
Some years ago our church’s drama team put on a skit entitled “CAMPFIRE” and to this day I still remember it. One of the characters was always instructing everyone on how to keep the campfire burning, while another character would repeatedly whine out loud: “It is too HARD!” in a funny squeaky voice.
The symbolism of the passage in Leviticus and the Campfire skit reveal a vivid truth when seen with New Testament eyes. We are to be the Keepers of the Fire that God put in us. As Paul exhorted his Gospel Son in 2 Timothy 1:6a:
“This is why I remind you to fan into flames the spiritual gift that God gave you”
What gift? The gift of the Life of God, His Holy Spirit inside of you. The enemy, your opposition, is doing his best to quench the fire within us and he has thrown many a wet blanket on our fires. He does that by dousing us with the water of lies, the dirt of our flesh, and stomping on us with his feet of temptations and condemnation.
But “no more!”, declares the Spirit of God within us. I love saying this: “Man on Fire!”, “Woman on Fire!” That is my desire and I know it is yours also.
Satan doesn’t have any consequence in quenching the fire, only we do because the fire of the Holy Spirit is our responsibility. The writer penned this: “Quench not the Spirit.” (1 Thessalonians 5:19, KJV) That was not written to Satan but to us. Satan has no power to quench the fire in us. So he uses deception and lies to convince us that what he says is the truth. So when you feel the Holy Spirit nudging you forward to pray, read the word, witness, prophecy, or whatever, just do it. Every time you don’t do as the Holy Spirit leads you to do there is a dulling of your sensitivity. But that is not you, is it? “For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.” (Romans 8:14, KJV)
Now read this very carefully: no one can carry revival into any home, any church, or any city if they do not have Personal Revival themselves.
- Has the Holy Spirit asked you to do something recently?
- Have you been saying no to Him?
- Don’t you think it is a good idea to say yes?
- Of course you do, for you are a Child of God!
Lastly, you may be thinking to yourself, “I’m so dry?” Well, okay, that’s a great place to start, thanks for being open and honest. I have some good news for you. The drier you are, the easier it is for you to CATCH ON FIRE FOR JESUS!
CONFESSION
The Fire of the Holy Ghost will never go out in me
PRAYER
Father God, I repent for allowing the enemy’s lies and deceptions, and myself, let the fire of God to simmer low. I take full responsibility for this fire: it must never go out and with your help, Holy Spirit, it will NEVER GO OUT. Lord, I ask You to keep my heart right before You and the people in my life. I want Personal Revival to be resident in me. Let Your fire have its way in me, Lord, to keep the enemy away from me and my loved ones. In Jesus’ name. AMEN
