How do you see yourself?

Looking in a mirror

How do you see yourself?

And the angel of the Lord appeared unto him, and said unto him, The Lord is with thee, thou mighty man of valour.”
Judges 6:11-12 KJV

If you take the time to read the rest of the story you will notice that Gideon was reluctant in his response to the angel. If I were the one to write it I would say it in my vernacular: “Whoa, Angel dude, you talking to me? Seriously, me, this is crazy, man!” You see, Gideon had a very difficult time seeing himself as a ‘Mighty Man of Valor’. But here’s the thing: Gideon couldn’t see himself as a ‘Mighty Man of Valor’. At least, not until God revealed it to him. And it’s the same for you. You need a revelation from the Holy Spirit convincing you that you are a child of God.

Listen, Champion, every morning you face a brand new day. You might face some brand-new problems or challenges today. So why not get a brand-new perspective of yourself through the eyes that God sees you with? I am certain that God sees you much differently than you see yourself. Do you remember the Israelites when they were spying out the Promised Land? They had an unhealthy mental vision of themselves – I call it “the insect mentality”. Who cares about insects, right? Not too many people. If you think that way about yourself, others will also.

“And there we saw the giants, the sons of Anak, which come of the giants: and we were in our own sight as grasshoppers, and so we were in their sight.”
Numbers 13:33, KJV

The way you see yourself is the way others will. So if you want to see yourself the way God sees you, you have to do something about it.

Let me share with you how I train myself to get a new perspective of myself. When I get caught up in negative thinking, and a feeling of insignificance or dread begins to come over me like a heavy blanket, I do something about it as soon as possible. If I don’t, I will become one of Satan’s P.O.W.s (Prisoner of War). Our armed forces train soldiers that, if they are ever captured, they are to only give their name, rank and serial number. They do this for a few reasons. One reason would be that our troops would not give out any secret information regarding strategy. Another reason is that the soldier will remind himself who he is and who he belongs to. The goal of the enemy is to strip you of your identity. Satan tried this on Jesus in the wilderness:

“During that time the devil came and said to him, “If you are the Son of God, tell these stones to become loaves of bread.””
Matthew 4:3 NLT

He wanted Jesus to question His identity and who He belonged to. It is the same with you. If Satan can get you to question your identity you will forget who you belong to, and the ability God gave to you as His child. So when the enemy comes to bind me, by using my feelings or sending a spirit of condemnation on me for my imperfections, I turn and confess: “My name is Danny Thornton, I am a child of God, the blood of the Lamb washes me, and my name is written in the Lamb’s Book of Life. So look out, devil, you are messing with the wrong man, get thee behind me in Jesus’ Name.”

Listen, do it quick and do it often, for it does take practice so never ever give up.

CONFESSION

I WILL SEE ME AS YOU SEE ME LORD

PRAYER

Father, I refuse to be Satan’s P.O.W. I ask you to continue to reveal to me who I am in Christ for you always cause me to triumph In Jesus Name AMEN
